Janelle Loiselle, Event Design and Catering at Madeline Garden Bistro

This styled shoot and multi-course menu is entirely the brain child of Janelle Loiselle, a former BKM bride!

She thrifted the settings, arranged the bouquets, as well as planned AND executed the menu. (All while pregnant, ON HER DAY OFF from her full time gig - she’s a trained chef!) I am in awe. These images will populate her new website for her soon-to-be catering and event planning company.

Janelle Loiselle is GOING PLACES. I can’t wait to be able to say, “I knew her when…”

Russian River Wedding, Guerneville, California

Tawny and Drew, finally on the blog! I had drinks with Tawny just recently and it reminded me that I never blogged this gorgeous wedding. (I had a new baby at the time, so client work takes priority. The blog, not so much.)

Tawny and Drew had family fly in from allll over the country, and their goal was to throw a badass party in a uniquely Californian space. Guerneville meshed their appreciation of landscape, outdoor sports, and craft beer. In short, it was fucking awesome.

We only had two locations on the timeline, Armstrong Woods and the Russian River Sportsman’s Lodge. We met up in the woods for their *magical* first look.

Then off to the Russian River Sportsman Lodge. Not a typical wedding venue…a legit lodge! On stilts right next to the river. Complete with vintage member photos and trophy animals on the walls. It was the best cozy vibe.

For the pre-ceremony cocktail hour, there were kegs of craft beer stuffed into every nook and cranny of the lodge deck. When everyone had a nice buzz, it’s was right to ceremony followed by (of course!) more beer, dinner, and dancing (with a little interruption for riverside portraits).

I LOVE these two, and being a part of their Russian River destination wedding was a total gift.

LACMA, Los Angeles County Museum of Art Wedding

We met J at her hotel before sunrise. The vibe was super. chill. Everyone had hair and makeup done in an hour (one hour!) and we were on our way to the LACMA for the first look and wedding party portraits.

There was a little drizzle that morning, but it didn’t stop us from playing. We had so much fun running around the Urban Light exhibit - it was completely empty that early!

After a short walk around Wilshire, we headed to Lawry’s The Prime Rib in Beverly Hills for the wedding ceremony and reception.

R changed into his uniform after the ceremony and we grabbed a few more photos in between bites of prime rib and bowls of wine. A perfect lunch wedding!

Backyard Wedding, Highland Park Los Angeles

Stephanie and Aaron were married in the backyard of their historic Highland Park home. The location was steeped in memories, it's been in the family for generations. Their event was a true coming together of loved ones. Months prior, everyone worked together to renovate the backyard. When I arrived the morning-of, family and friends were all through the space setting up lights and tables and wine (can't forget booze). The teamwork was a beautiful thing to witness, and it was a true coming together of families!

Steph and Aaron leveled up the new first look tradition with private vows. I absolutely love this idea. So happy to have captured the moment (from afar!).

They were married under a huge tree in the backyard, surrounded by their loved ones. Cocktail hour was under the shade of the biggest cactus I have ever seen, as tall as the house! Aaron's grandma could remember when it was just a tiny, single stalk. We walked the neighborhood streets for our post-ceremomy portrait session.

It was such a beautiful, intimate backyard wedding. I was the only "real" wedding vendor in attendance, and sometimes that's just the way I like it. Such an honor to be a part of their event.

Gerry Ranch Wedding

I feel like as soon as I start writing about Jessica and Jeremy's Gerry Ranch wedding, I'm going to have a novel! So I will keep it short and sweet -- these two are so obviously in love with one another. Their excitement was infectious and their joy shows clearly in their images. I feel so lucky to have captured the day.

Gerry Ranch was a dream to work with. Everyone, the family and staff, was so kind and helpful. Chantal, especially! Everything was on site - bridal suite, ceremony, cocktail, and reception. The ranch even included a sunset golf cart trip to the top of the ridge where frolicked (yup) and ate fat little blueberries straight from the bush. Dreamy.

Multigenerational Family Portraits, Pasadena

LISTEN UP! Next time your whole family is in town, the rare case when everyone is together -- HIRE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER! I promise you, you will not regret it.

I worked with Carol to get a family and shot combo list ahead of time, so that on the day-of we knew exactly what we were doing. Preparation keeps the stress at bay and gives everyone time to play! (I didn't mean to rhyme, but I'm sticking with it!)

SmogShoppe, Culver City Wedding

Karin and Jeremy's 2015 feels simultaneously like yesterday and 100 years ago! I can't believe it was 2015. Never blogged, thanks to my wee baby girl and adjusting to life as a new mom. But this wedding has to be posted! It was so filled with fun, laughter, and happy tears.

Their wedding day started at the gorgeous Culver Hotel with bagels and champagne. They DIYed their flowers, hair/makeup, shoe design, and even the bridesmaid dresses! Sewing is one of Karin's favorite past times. After their first look, I witnessed one of the most heartfelt Ketubah signings of my entire career. The atmosphere was beautiful and heavy - the upstairs of the SmogShoppe was the perfect intimate space. After the ceremony, guests were treated to breakfast for dinner. Soooo tasty. The party finished with an AWESOME dance floor that can only be credited to Karin and Jeremy's amazing tastes because this was AN IPOD wedding! No DJ! Kinda scary, I'm not gonna lie, but this one turned out pretty freakin' great!

Since their wedding day, I've photographed them as guests at one of their bridesmaids weddings and still follow most of their crew on instagram - they are just GOOD people. I'm so happy that my work brought me into their world.
